Welcome, Connect with us

Hope Chapel is a church with a casual and contemporary style that makes it possible for us to connect with God through worship and the study of the eternal truths of scripture. Whether you’re just beginning your walk with Jesus, or you’ve been following Him for many years, we invite you to visit us.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT WHEN I ATTEND?

Our weekend worship gatherings are focused upon connecting with God, through worship and Bible teaching, and with one another

Our services are based around worship, fellowship, a Bible teaching and an opportunity to respond to the life giving message of Jesus. Our music, language and style is contemporary, but our roots are deeply traditional, Biblically speaking.

When you arrive, expect to be welcomed by our team. If you have questions look for our “Welcome Booth” on the patio, or follow the signs to our kid check-in stations. Team members are always easily identified by our orange name badges, and every member is ready to help.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

We are a casual church. You will l find a range of dress styles from jeans and t-shirts, to shorts and flip-flops, to an occasional sport jacket and dress. So come dressed however you are comfortable and you will fit right in.

DO I NEED TO BRING A BIBLE?

If you own a Bible you will want to bring it. It is our pattern to study through whole books of the Bible, so, our pastors will  refer to it often – and even encourage you to mark it up as your life-textbook.

If you don’t have a Bible, our ushers make them available just before the Bible study begins. Also, if you don’t own a Bible and would like one, we would count it a privilege to gift you with your first one. Talk with one of our ushers or pastors before or after the service, and we’ll be happy to give you a Bible.

Our pastor teaches from what is known as the English Standard version of the Bible. If you have another version you are used to or prefer, bring it along. The differences from version to version are mostly minor. Having an ESV will simply make it easier to follow along when our pastors read or point out the wording in a particular verse or passage.

One more thing… many of the members of our fellowship use their smartphone or tablet as their Bible.

WHERE DO MY KIDS GO? DO YOU HAVE SERVICES FOR THEM?

We have invested heavily in our children’s ministry at Hope Chapel. We think that your kids will love the kid focused environment, music, crafts, games and teaching that our trained teachers and assistants* provide.

To find the appropriate classroom for your children, head to our Kids Ministry area. There our team of dedicated volunteers will escort you and your children to their classrooms and walk you through the check-in procedures.

*All of our teachers and assistants have been through an application and background check process, and have been trained in how to relate to and teach your children. Each of our classrooms have a minimum of 2 adults, and additional assistants as the class size increases.

DO YOU HAVE A MIDWEEK SERVICE?

We don’t currently have a midweek service, however, we encourage you to check out our Growth Groups or some of our other great ministries. Our aim is to live life in connection with God, one another, and the world, which takes place outside the walls of our facility and throughout our community all week long.

AS A NEWCOMER, HOW ELSE CAN I GET CONNECTED?

We understand that joining a new church can be difficult, so we’ve worked hard to make your first steps easy.

  1. Attend a weekly service on Sunday morning.
  2. Fill out our Connection Card at the service, or online here.
  3. Check out our Get Connected meeting following a service.
  4. Check out a Men’s or Women’s study or a Growth Group.

TELL US MORE ABOUT HOPE CHAPEL

We started out as the Village Chapel. A group of sixty people gathered who wanted to reach Vandenberg Village and Lompoc Valley with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The church was birthed in the prayer meetings that were held each Saturday morning at The Village Coffee stop. Pastor Chuck Musselwhite and his growing family (Jennifer was eight months pregnant with their third child) moved to Lompoc in December of 2006.  We held our first service on the last Sunday in January 2007 at The White Oak Inn. We quickly grew as word spread that we taught the Word of God in a casual setting.

Sixteen months after our first service, we needed more space so we started meeting at Buena Vista elementary school and rented offices. Being a portable church was a challenge but it bonded our group together and we continued to reach families. Those days are filled with fond memories of slinging chairs and setting up the worship band. So many committed people made that period a success.

After six years of being portable, it was obvious that we needed our own space. There were very few options in the Village, but God opened up a shuttered doctor’s office for us to purchase at the corner of Constellation and Burton Mesa. It took eighteen months to renovate, but on the first Sunday of March 2013, we held our first service in our new sanctuary.

In 2021 we were in need of more classroom and office space so we sold our current building and attempted to purchase the Coast Hills Credit Union building across the street. The deal fell through. We continued to rent our building until we could find an appropriate facility. After two years of waiting, we leased the old Mission Hills Baptist church, which increased our ministry space to 11,000 sq ft on five acres. After six weeks of renovation we held our first service on Sunday August 13th, 2023 and changed our name to Hope Chapel.
